Sewers  – November, 25, 2016

Health care is one of the most important divisions at Atohobony. We visit a village at Shebein al-Qanater. Unfortunately the whole village does not enjoy a sewage system. They are depending on sewer outhouses as a substitute for the sewage system. The sewers are located outside the house and it and the water pumps inside houses carry wasted to them. It works as a substitute for the sewage system. They are build then a large amounts of salt are added to the land beneath the house to open its pores, thus the house is ready to receive large amounts of waste. Even the running water is not available all the time, thus pumps were made to dig 30 meters low at the land to get pure drinkable water. The distance between the outhouse sewers and the pumps used to bring water is 10 to 15 meters. This leads to contamination of water and accordingly critical health problems arise, namely Hepatitis C, kidney failure,..etc. The villagers have nothing to do with it, however they are really thankful and never complain.

According to Dr.Maha Radamees this problem may cause wide range of minor health problems like fever, Salmonella, tremor paralysis and typhoid to major problems like cancer, hepatitis C in addition to affecting the brain cells.

250 families are subjected to all the aforementioned problems. Each house needs an independent outhouse sewer at a long distance of the water pumps.
